    Summary


    The Mine Safety and Health Administration's mission is to protect the safety and health of the Nation's miners by determining compliance with federal safety and health standards through inspections and investigations and working cooperatively with the mining industry, labor and the States to improve training programs aimed at preventing accidents and occupationally caused disease.

    Responsibilities


    Provide program and administrative support, as well as liaison duties in direct support of the supervisor and a cadre of Mine Safety and Health Inspectors. Receive and review for completeness a variety of documents submitted by the inspectors, e.g., mine plans, inspection and investigation reports. Identify and recommend solutions for any discrepancies found prior to submission to the supervisor for final review and/ or signature. Ensure that completed reports and any additional relevant information are complete, comply with the proper format, and forwarded to the District in a timely manner. Record and track mine plan approval processing. Track motor vehicle usage. Gather and compile FOIA data. Receive calls and visitors; ascertain the nature of the call or visit and determine those which can be personally handled, refer others to the appropriate field or district office staff. Arrange conferences and appointments for the office based on knowledge of the work assignments, following up with staff members to ensure that commitments are met. Keeps in close contact with the supervisor when out of the office in order to plan, coordinate, and advise on work efforts or to resolve operating problems. Receive, review, and distribute incoming correspondence. Respond to items which do not require the attention of the supervisor or staff. Review outgoing correspondence for compliance with policy, procedure, format, grammar, punctuation, etc. Record, track, and produce documents using agency specific automated systems. Make arrangements for travel, arrange schedules for visits, make reservations, notify organizations and officials to be visited of planned itinerary, and submit travel vouchers and reports upon completion of travel.

    Qualifications

    Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-05, in the Federal Service. Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled.
